Panel Network — Ethernet Port Setup

Configure settings for the built-in Ethernet port(s) and USB to Ethernet adapters in a USB port.

Different C-more CM5 panel models have different numbers of Ethernet ports. All models have at least one and can use a USB-to-Ethernet adapter in the USB port. 10-in, 12-in, 15-in, and 22-in models have two built-in ports. Always configure each port correctly.

In Panel Network Setup, click Ethernet Port.

The Ethernet Port window opens:

Save Settings to Project

Select this box to enable Ethernet port settings.

Note:

You can enter Ethernet port settings through the built-in panel System Screens. If you enable Save Settings to Project, the project transfer overwrites the panel Ethernet port settings with the values configured in the Ethernet Port window.

Obtain Address from DHCP

Use this selection when setting up a panel on an established network for programming and configuration.

The panel will query the network for a DHCP server. If a DHCP server exists on the network, the server assigns an available Ethernet port settings to the panel automatically. If there is no response from a DHCP server, the panel follows AutoIP standards and assumes an IP address starting with 169.254.xxx.xxx.

Note:

Do not use Obtain Address from DHCP for control networks. The server can change the IP address with no warning, which can cause communication problems.

Use the Following IP Address

Use this section to manually set the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.

Note:

Each Ethernet port must have a unique IP Address for proper communication.

IP Address

The IP address is unique for each device on the Local Area Network (LAN). If multiple devices have the same IP address anywhere on the network, the panel does not communicate correctly. See your Network Administrator for an available IP address.

Note:

Use the following IP address for control networks so that the IP address does not change.

Subnet Mask

The Subnet Mask is the same for each device on the LAN. See your Network Administrator for the proper Subnet Mask.

Default Gateway

You can use a router to connect the LAN to a second network. If the C-more panel communicates with devices on the first network, use the router IP address.

C-more See your Network Administrator for the proper Default Gateway Address. A Default Gateway is necessary for panel internet access. For example the Email Client sends emails through an external email server.

Note:

The Default Gateway has one setting. One of the Ethernet Port Network Addresses must match the Default Gateway Network Address.

Find the Default Gateway IP Address

Set all Ethernet ports to Obtain Address from DHCP to disable the Default Gateway setting. The DHCP Server sets the Gateway by default.

To verify the Default Gateway, use the System Tag SYS Panel Default Gateway IP with a Dynamic Text object. The object shows the Default Gateway IP address on the panel or on the Ethernet tab of the System Screen Information window.SYS Panel Default Gateway IP

Set the IP address and the default gateway manually to connect to an external network.

DNS Server

A Domain Name System (DNS) server resolves a URL into an IP address. For example, the DNS server resolves the URL www.automationdirect.com to the IP address 192.168.20.254. When you configure a DNS server for a panel, you can use names instead of IP addresses for email servers, FTP servers, and devices connected via Ethernet.

Note:

You must configure the Ethernet port before you configure a DNS Server.

Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically

If a DHCP server exists on the network, select this radio button to query the network for a DNS server.

Use the Following DNS Server Addresses

If you know the preferred DNS server address, enter it directly.

Preferred DNS

The IP address of the DNS server that the panel uses first to resolve a URL.

Alternate DNS

The IP address of the backup DNS server that the panel uses if the Preferred DNS server cannot resolve a URL.
